The truth about time attendance ...
Most employees fail to understand the significance of time keeping or punctuality and its impact upon the company. This is especially true of people who occupy fairly tedious or mundane jobs but is not limited to them as high income executives cost more per hour and therefore have greater impact on "stolen" time.
"Time Theft" as problem should be dealt with in a disciplinary manner but this methodology ultimately leads to stick driven management which can have a negative impact on the morale of the workforce not to mention CCMA procedural implicatons. Add to this the phenomena of a labour law which rightly or wrongly seems to manifest in the interests of the employee and you have a recipe for what will eventually amount to time lost which is equivalent to money lost.
Ultimately the objective of any time management system is not to fire people for arriving 5mins late three times but rather to create the framework in which an employee can realize his role in the generation of his salary and thereby stimulate a culture of punctuality. A co operative work ethic is far more productive then a disciplinary culture, the employee needs to realize that the company will no longer pay for time that he is not in attendance and that if he chooses to come late that the only person he is injuring is himself.
The moment that you have employees that understand their role in the generation of their income you are offered a glimpse at a small but highly achievable phenomena called "Employee Buy In". This is should be the ultimate objective of every organisation regardless of the size because with it you will achive operating efficiency and thereby maximizing business profits.
